Flash trip to Willowwood Arboretum: Our regularly scheduled field trips are over, but that hasn't stopped our intrepid Field Trip Chairman Wade Wander from announcing the following!
I’m announcing a flash club trip to Willowwood Arboretum on Sunday, Oct. 1 (a happy October outing). One last trip to take advantage of promised warm and sunny weather before a hard frost shuts down most butterfly activity in the northern part of the state. My thought is that we might luck into seeing a few southern species in the well-maintained gardens. Since the nights (and mornings) are now pretty chilly let’s meet at the picnic tables at noon to have a brown-bag lunch. Then we can check out the flowers in the gardens and walk some trails through the fields where there are flowering asters and goldenrods. Afterward, some folks may want to check out the nearby Kay Environmental Center. Let’s get out butterflying while we can - it will be a long winter!
The Seward Johnson Living Sculpture exhibit is ongoing at Willowwood. So either park at the picnic tables or tell the exhibit parking attendants that you are there for a butterfly walk and you will not have to pay.
