Saving the Monarch Migration

Help the North American Butterfly Association conserve butterflies and their habitats.

Monarchs have suffered an immense population decline in recent decades. Threats range from habitat loss and pesticide exposure to genetic swamping from commercially-raised butterflies released into the environment. The problems are complex and require innovative approaches to create and enhance stopover sights along the migration route and address unregulated impacts to overwintering grounds.

Boosting the overall population by gardening for butterflies, establishing larger blocks of favorable vegetation and educating the public about commercial butterfly releases will help overcome many challenges we face. Much more work is needed to protect and expand overwintering sites.
