[Arogos Skipper]

Arogos Skipper on Pontotoc Ridge, OK on 14 June 2003, by Walter Gerard. In 2003, this species was found on 8 counts, with Pontotoc Ridge reporting the most adults (83).

[Juvenal's Duskywing]

A female Juvenal's Duskywing nectars on hoary alyssum on Nevis, MN on 27 June 2003, by John Weber, Jr. In 2003, this species was found on 11 counts, with Manitoulin Island, ON reporting the most adults (18).

[Appalachian Brown]

Appalachian Brown on Delaware Co., OH on 6 July 2003, by Andrew Hoppe. In 2003, Northern Westchester County, NY reported the most adults of this species (69).

[Black Swallowtail]

Black Swallowtail on Delaware Co., OH on 6 July 2003, by Andrew Hoppe. In 2003, Point Pelee, ON reported the most adults of this species (272), while Metro New Orleans, LA reported the most eggs (54) and pupas (32), while Cape May, NJ reported the most caterpillars (35).

[Compton Tortoiseshell]

Craig Marks of Lafayette, LA tries to go on a count in a different part of the country each. This year, he chose Itasca State Park, MN, on 13 July 2003. He encountered a Compton Tortoiseshell for the first time in his life. The 39 encountered that day were by far the most ever on the 59 north central MN counts during 1993-2003, and the most adults found on any 2003 count. Photo by John Weber, Jr.

[Dion Skipper]

Dion Skipper on Pontotoc Ridge, OK on 14 June 2003, by Walter Gerard. In 2003, Tarrant Co., TX and Pettigrew State Park, NC reported the most adults of this species (34 on each count).

[Red Admiral]

Red Admiral on Delaware Co., OH on 6 July 203, by W. K. Gibson. In 2003, Pettigrew State Park, NC reported the most adults of this species (750), while Tewaukon Lake, ND had the most eggs (5) and Lake Placid, NY had the most caterpillars (108).

[Silvery Checkerspots]

Four Silvery Checkerspots nectar on ragwort on Nevis, MN on 27 June 2003, by John Weber, Jr. This was the second year in a row that over 400 appeared on the Nevis count. With 413 adults in 2003, Nevis had the most individuals of this species of all the 2003 counts.
