Pipevine Swallowtail (Battus philenor)

Go to: Roosting Pipevines

The caterpillars of this common butterfly are most frequently encountered in the ranch country in the northern portion of the Valley. In February of 2007 in the northern Starr County community of San Isidro, an interesting phenomena was observed of Pipevines roosting on native trees.
