BUTTERFLY WALK, MAY 13

We will visit Valley View Glade near Hillsboro on Sunday, May 13. The Butterfly Walk will start at the main entrance at 10:00 a.m. (Directions follow). People who want to carpool should meet at 9:00 a.m. on the parking lot of Dierberg’s on Tesson Ferry about ½ to 1 mile west of I-270. The Dierberg’s shopping center would be on your left. Park in the lot closest to Tesson Ferry (as opposed to parking close to the entrance of the store). Tom Krauska has also offered his home as a meeting place for carpools (and you will get a tour of his garden). Tom lives in South County.

I thank Jack Harris for these directions. Although I do not attend his weekly Botany Walks for Webster Groves Nature Study Society, I save all his announcements just for the directions.

Directions: (Option #1): Take I-270 to Tesson Ferry Road (Hwy. 21) and exit at Tesson Ferry. Go south on Tesson Ferry/ Hwy. 21 for approximately 26 miles to Hwy. B on the south side of Hillsboro. Turn right (west) onto B at the traffic signal and travel (west/north) approximately 5 miles to Valley View Glade parking area. Parking area is on the north/east side of Hwy. B. Watch for standard Mo. Dept. of Conservation Area sign.

(Option #2): Take I-270 to Hwy. 30/Gravois Road. Travel south/west on Hwy. 30 for approximately 20 miles to Hwy. B. Turn left (east/south) at traffic signal onto B. Travel south on B for approximately 6 miles to Valley View Glade parking area on the north/east side of road. Watch for standard Mo. Dept. of Conservation Area sign.

SPECIAL CAUTION: Do NOT turn onto Hwy. "BB". Proceed past BB and turn onto B.

Bring water, insect repellent, hat, sunscreen.
