Calendar of Events for 2012

Please note the following changes to the calendar:

  • The July 7 walk been canceled.
  • A Fourth of July count on July 8 has been added.
  • The September 22 walk at the Missouri Botanical Garden has been rescheduled to September 15 and replaces the September 15 Forest Park walk, which has been canceled.

Tuesday, April 17 6:00–8:00pm “Spring Butterflies” Class at Meramec Community College (part of the Master Naturalist Certificate Program) taught by Pat Garner & Yvonne Homeyer. To register, go to the Class Schedule select Cont. Ed. Spring 2012, select Meramec, and then select NATR 720, Section 650 or call 314.539.5747.
Saturday, April 21 10:00 Busch C.A. (Yvonne Homeyer). Meet at the Jim Ziebol Butterfly Garden at the bottom of the Visitor’s Center parking lot.
Sunday, May 20 9:00 Shaw Nature Reserve (Yvonne Homeyer). Seasonal Count ($3 fee). Meet at Visitor’s Center.
Sunday, May 27 9:00 Young C.A. (Dennis Bozzay). Meet at parking lot.
Saturday, June 16 Noon “Butterfly Gardening” program by Tom “Terrific” Krauska at his home in south county, 9016 Robyn Road, St. Louis, MO 63126. Tom has an extensive native plant garden. He will discuss host plants for our St. Louis butterfly species and share gardening tips. We’ll start with a picnic lunch at noon, followed by the program and a walk around his garden. Tom might have a few plants to give away. Note the later start time.
Sunday, June 24 9:00 Busch C.A. (Scott Marshall) - Fourth of July Count ($3 fee). Meet at the Jim Ziebol Butterfly Garden at the bottom of the Visitor’s Center parking lot.
Sunday, July 8 9:00 AM NEW! Elsberry, MO, Fourth of July Count (Allen Casey). Meet at the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service’s Plant Materials Center, 2803 N. Hwy. 79 on the south edge of Elsberry. Please call Allen Casey at 573-898-2012 to let him know if you will be participating. No fee.
Sunday, July 15 9:00 Shaw Nature Reserve (Yvonne Homeyer) – Fourth of July Count ($3 fee). Meet at Visitor’s Center.
Saturday, July 28 10:00 Weldon Spring Interpretive Center (Jeannie Moe). Butterfly walk in the garden and prairie, followed by an indoor (air-conditioned) picnic lunch at Noon. Excellent opportunity for photography. Note the later start time.
Sunday, Aug. 26 9:00 Horseshoe Lake (Sherry McCowan). Seasonal Count ($3 fee). Meet at Taco Bell in truck stop on Illinois Hwy. 203, across from the old Gateway Racetrack.
Sunday, Sept. 9 9:00 Young C.A. (Dennis Bozzay). Meet at parking lot.
Saturday, Sept. 15 9:00 Missouri Botanical Garden (Yvonne Homeyer). Meet at the Ridgeway Visitor’s Center. Entrance to the Garden is free on Saturday.
