North American Butterfly Association - Orange County Chapter

Western Tiger Swallowtail The Orange County Chapter of NABA is dedicated to the preservation of butterflies and their host plants. Meetings are held at the Irvine Ranch Water District offices at 15600 Sand Canyon in Irvine at 7:00 pm.

The meetings are open to anyone and everyone interested in butterflies.

Mugu State Park Field Trip CANCELED ~ The NABA field trip to Point Mugu State Park planned for August 21, 2010 has been canceled. No new date has been set. Please check back.

March 20, 2010 - Caspers Regional Wilderness Park, Orange Co. CA.

April 18 2010 - Donna O’Neil Land Conservancy, Rancho Mission Viejo, Orange County

May 22, 2010 NABA will join the SAMNHA Group on an all day Car/Truck Tour lead by Lee Shoemaker and Larry Shaw to the Santa Ana Mountains on rugged dirt forest roads to observe the local wildlife & fauna.

June 5, 2010 - Blue Jay Campground, in the Cleveland National Forest, Santa Ana Mtns., Orange Co. CA.

*June 27, 2010 - Annual NABA Butterfly Counts within Riley and O’Neil Regional Wilderness Parks

Don Mitchell

The butterfly community lost one it's greats, Don Mitchell, Founder of the Orange County Chapter of the North American Butterfly Association.

Nov. 17, 1936 - Aug. 16, 2009

He was a lover of butterflies, traveled the world, was a gifted writer, avid gourmet cook, gourmand eater, reader of all things, collector of knowledge and lover of life. We will miss you Don, now go be with the butterflies.

Butterfly Counts
NABA 4th of July Butterfly Count
The NABA Butterfly Count is a census of the butterflies of North America (United States, Canada and partially Mexico) The results are then published . Volunteer participants select a count area with a 15-mile diameter and conduct a one-day census of all butterflies sighted within that circle. All are welcome to participate.
