UPCOMING FIELD TRIPS:

Saturday, May 4 - Pine Barrens, Ocean County
Meet at Lucilles Diner on Route 539 in Warren Grove [DeLorme 57: M-24] at 9:30 a.m. (earlier for those who want to eat breakfast there.) Take the Garden State Parkway to Exit 69. Then take CR 532 West (Wells Mill Road) for several miles to where it meets Route 72. Cross over Route 72 onto CR 610 (still Wells Mill Road) and travel for 2+ miles to Route 539. Turn left on Route 539 and go about a mile to Lucille's in Warren Grove. Hoped for butterflies include Hoary Elfin, Pine Elfin, Brown Elfin, Hessel's Hairstreak, Sleepy Duskywing, and Cobweb Skipper.
Leader: Chris Williams.

Sunday, May 19 - Flatbrookville, Sussex County
Meet at 9:30 am at Millbrook Village (DeLorme 23:C-17). DIRECTIONS: Take Route 80 to exit 12 (Hope-Blairstown). At end of ramp go right on Route 521 N for several miles to Blairstown. Turn left onto Route 94 S. Go a very short distance to the traffic light and turn right. Be careful here. Take the 90 degree right; DO NOT FOLLOW ROUTE 521 WHICH MAKES A BACKSLANTING RIGHT. Go past the church, up the hill, and turn right at the top onto Route 602 (Millbrook Road). In a short distance bear left (which is still Route 602-Millbrook Road). Follow this for a number of miles, up and over the Kittatinny Ridge. When you have descended the backside of the Ridge you will come to Millbrook Village, a restored museum village. When the road Y's at the village, bear right and turn right into the parking lot. There is a restroom at the far end of the lot.
Leader: Tom Halliwell.

Please send your butterfly sightings to Jim Springer (springer@naba.org) for publication in The Pearly Eye, our annual field report. Please start the subject line with NABA-NJ Butterfly Sightings. Please include the species, county, location, observer(s), date, number, and any other relevant comments like behavior, age, etc. Your oral reports at a NABA meeting should be followed up in written form.

IMPORTANT NOTICE: In the event of inclement weather which might lead to the cancellation of a NABA meeting, members should call Wade Wander (973) 271-0204 or one of the other officers listed above. An email message may be sent if the meeting is cancelled, but THIS MAY NOT ALWAYS BE POSSIBLE. Your best bet is to call if you don't get an email message (or if you don't have email.)

Our monthly meetings take place on the first Tuesday of each month (except November when it is the second Tuesday) at 7:30 p.m. at the Frelinghuysen Arboretum's Haggerty Education Center, 53 East Hanover Avenue, Morristown, NJ. (973) 326-7600. Directions are given on this web site.

For all who would like to join us at the pre-meeting dinner each month, we meet at "Frank's Pizza" which is just inside the Morris County Mall past the Foodtown. If you come inside the mall by the MacDonalds, keep walking past MacDonalds and bear to the right. Frank's Pizza has a large Italian style menu so you're not relegated to just pizza (though the pizza is good.) You do have to bring your own wine or beer however. The Morris County Mall is on the east side of Ridgedale Avenue just north of the junction with East Hanover Avenue. We meet about 6:00 PM. Hope to see you there! By the way in case you forget to BYOB, there is a liquor store a few minutes, about four traffic lights, north of the mall on Ridgedale Ave. (That's toward Route 10, not Morristown, in the center of Cedar Knolls.)

Please notify Alice Koster or Deedee Burnside if you change your e-mail address. Also, if you have not done so, please remember to renew your dues! Our chapter appreciates your help!
