Welcome to the web site of the North Central Florida Chapter of the North American Butterfly Association or NABA!
We are a local chapter supporting locally the
mission of NABA in butterfly enjoyment and conservation. We consist of members of NABA who
live in the north-central region of Florida. This includes the city of Gainesville,
Florida which is located in the county of Alachua (see map). Gainesville is the home of
the University of Florida and the Florida Museum of Natural History
including the McGuire Center for Lepidoptera and Biodiversity and is a worldwide
center of lepidoptera study and activity. The North Central Chapter holds regular meetings
presenting educational programs related to the enjoyment and conservation of butterflies
as well as participates in regular butterflying field trips focusing on "butterfly
observation" and "butterfly gardening". More than 125 species have
been observed in North Central Florida and surrounding areas. Please feel free to browse
our site using the menu selections and links supplied. More information about the North
Central Chapter can be obtained from Kathy Malone, Chapter President, at zlongwing@aol.com .
