1. President Pat Thomas reported on the monarch migration. Several members reported their first butterfly sightings of the season (Commas, Milbert's Tortoiseshells) 2.Vice-President Jim Larson talked about the monarch larva monitoring project. He has two possible sites located. Jim brought some beautiful pictures of various monarch caterpillar instars as well as a rearing cage that he made. It was agreed that those interested would meet at the Munger Trail parking lot. 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, 23 April. (this is out by the zoo, take a left at the Munger Inn). For more information please contact Jim Larson at 392-5732. 3. Jim Phillips spoke about our chapter's first official NABA 4th of July Butterfly Count. Jim will scout out the Boulder Lake area for possible sites. Pat asked that Enger Tower be included as well. Jim has agreed to direct and compile our butterfly counts and lead some butterfly walks this summer. 4. It was agreed that we'd like to hear information on binoculars at the May meeting. Members who use or have close-focusing binoculars are asked to bring them to the meeting. We'll talk about different types and the advantages-disadvantages of each kind. 5. Greg Bonnovitz asked about Muriel Shirey's Butterfly garden. Pat reported that she was unable to attend the landscaping sessions at Hartley, but Kristen has been at the meetings and will report to the group. 6. Our book group will meet 24 April at Northern Lights to discuss Sue Halpern's book Four Wings and a Prayer:Caught in the Mystery of the Monarch Butterfly. It's a wonderful book-we'll also watch Jim larson's video on the monarchs so it should be a great evening. See you at 7:00 p.m. 7. Peg Zahorik and her students are packaging the seeds donated by Cathy Leece for our first fundraiser. Peg and Pat decided to sell the seeds for $1.00 a packet. A display board, donated by Karen Arthur, was at the meeting and several members reserved seeds which will be available at the May meeting. 8. We decided to join Monarch Watch as a chapter. Jim Larson will take care of our membership. We also decided to continue helping Ordean School in their Monarch tagging and projects.
