President Pat Thomas opened the meeting at 6:30. The objective of the April meeting will be to look at talents and tasks of members in order to move ahead as a chapter. Monarch migration updates will be discussed. Dates to remember: St. Louis County Spring Gardening Extravaganza will feature butterflies on April 18th. 6:00 to 8:45 p.m. at The Hermantown High School. Larry Weber will conduct three butterfly ID workshops on May 21, 28, and June 4th. from 6:30 - 7:30. Register at the April 9 meeting. At 6:35 Dave Benson, a Duluth area naturalist, was introduced. Dave's sense of humor flowed as he shared with us a wealth of information and his experiences with the use of binoculars. Everything from magnification power (6 - 8X) to eye relief (greater than 15) to added amenities like eye cups, weight, strap "dangle," and brightness were covered. We were reminded that beginners can learn a lot about ID characteristics from butterfly road kills :) Dave also handed out a list of periodicals relating to butterflies. Meeting ended at 7:35. Respectfully submitted, Barb Ellingson - Secretary
