MARCH 26, 2002 MEETING - The Art of Using Binoculars by Dave Benson

President Pat Thomas opened the meeting at 6:30.
Next meeting will be at the regular second Tuesday of the month, April 9, 2002.

The objective of the April meeting will be to look at talents and tasks of members in order to move ahead as a chapter.

Monarch migration updates will be discussed.

Dates to remember: St. Louis County Spring Gardening Extravaganza will feature butterflies on April 18th. 6:00 to 8:45 p.m. at The Hermantown High School.

Larry Weber will conduct three butterfly ID workshops on May 21, 28, and June 4th. from 6:30 - 7:30. Register at the April 9 meeting.

At 6:35 Dave Benson, a Duluth area naturalist, was introduced. Dave's sense of humor flowed as he shared with us a wealth of information and his experiences with the use of binoculars. Everything from magnification power (6 - 8X) to eye relief (greater than 15) to added amenities like eye cups, weight, strap "dangle," and brightness were covered. We were reminded that beginners can learn a lot about ID characteristics from butterfly road kills :) Dave also handed out a list of periodicals relating to butterflies.

Meeting ended at 7:35.

Respectfully submitted,

Barb Ellingson - Secretary
