On July
25, we held our last official NABA butterfly count
of 2004:
the Muriel Shirey Memorial count at Enger Park. The
weather was beautiful,
with temperatures from 71 to 82 and sunny skies with
a moderate breeze. Attending were Foster & Gail
Gilliland, Doreen Hansen, Wally Mattson, Linda
Naughton, Pat Thomas, and yours truly. Pretty low numbers
- but it was a nice day to be
in the park.... Those of you at the count who left
first will see some
additions. Doreen noticed an (injured) Baltimore Checkerspot
as she was about to leave, and then spotted an American
Lady in the gardens. So I
offered to walk the route one more time in hopes that
the rising temperature
was bringing out more butterflies. I was only able
to add another Coral Hairstreak (by the Tower) and
a Common Wood Nymph and Tawny-Edged Skipper
(both south of the Gazebo). |
