At the Annual Meeting on October 29, the Club will be auctioning a series of original chromolithographs from Samuel Scudder's Butterflies of the Eastern United States and Canada, 1889. A generous donation from Dick Walton makes these antique prints available. These are beautiful 8 x 10.5" heirloom quality prints, in excellent condition, suitable for framing and display. They include full color adult butterflies and caterpillars. Each print comes with Scudder's identification in latin and lists the printer and artist. Two plates are shown below. The prints will be on display at the meeting, and bids will be taken at that time.

Below are descriptions of what butterflies are featured on each of the butterfly plates we will auction.

Plate 1 includes Common Wood Nymph, Monarch, Viceroy, Little Wood Satyr, Northern Pearly-eye, Eyed Brown and an Arctic.

Plate 3 includes Eastern Comma, Gray Comma, Compton Tortoiseshell and Question Marks.

Plate 4 includes American Snout and the following Fritillaries: Regal, Great Spangled, Atlantis, Aphrodite and Silver-bordered.

Plate 5 includes Meadow Fritillary, Harris' Checkerspot, Pearl Crescent, Baltimore Checkerspot, Bronze and Bog Coppers and Harvester.

Plate 9 includes a number of skippers including Silver-spotted, Hoary Edge, Northern Cloudywing, Common Sootywing, and the following Duskywings: Dreamy, Sleepy, Juvenal's and Horace's.

Plates 74, 75, 76 and 77 are of caterpillars and include Scudder's scientific name for each caterpillar. These will be sold as one lot.
