Dear Members and Friends of the Broward County Butterfly Chapter:
Hope that things are going well in your life! Can't believe that summer is just around the corner! We all enjoyed and learned some new butterfly gardening techniques thanks to Sandy Granson's informative presentation on April 12th. It was also wonderful seeing the familiar and new faces of the folks who joined us for the evening and contributed some fresh ideas during our business meeting. Special thanks to everyone who donated those sought after plants for the raffle which netted a nice sized deposit for our treasury.
Some of our members helped Scott Bryan out at the Seminole Indian Earth Day Event on Saturday April 21st and Sunday, April 22nd. I am sure that the participants at the event found our booth enlightening! Thank you Sandy Fernandes and Nancy Johns for representing BCBC!
Please note: We will not be having regular meetings during the months of June and July and we are currently making arrangements to lease a room at Nova High School for next year's meetings. If you have any other suggestions for a meeting location, please let us know.
We will be having a "Board Meeting" over the summer and EVERYONE is most welcome and encouraged to attend. We depend on the input from our members and friends for guiding us and keeping our chapter alive. Suggestions for meeting topics, activities, and all other facets of our club's operation are desired. We also are seeking new officers to take on and share some of the current board members' responsibilities. These positions can be shared, so please let us know if you are willing to serve and in what capacity. We have learned by doing, so join us in this endeavor.
Our web site has been under construction recently and it should be operating without any glitches in the near future due to the generosity of Joanne Pemberton, our first webmaster who designed our fabulous web site and who has made the financial arrangements for us to keep our http://browardbutterflies.org name. Our new webmaster, Chelsea DeWitt, Barb's daughter, has been working diligently to get things up and running with the new host server that we voted on to purchase. You can also link to our site via the www.naba.org site and click on local chapters under the Florida listings.
Consider joining some of us for our first Seasonal Count at Long Key Natural Area in Davie in May. Our VP, Barb DeWitt and several other members are planning this event with definite details to follow. Please contact Candy Leone at 954-680-2073 if you'd like to participate and can't make it to the meeting next week.
Be on the lookout for an article about our chapter which will appear in an upcoming edition of NABA's Butterfly Gardener. It features some of our chapter's history, community activities, and the people who have contributed to our success.
In preparation of our 4th of July counts, we will spend some time identifying butterflies using Alex's CD presentation, so bring your field guides. We can always use plants for our raffle, so pot up some of those plants that picked your garden to grow in without your permission!
Looking forward to seeing you at the meeting!
