Welcome to Florida Chapters of NABA Website! The state of Florida has more chapters of the North American Butterfly Association (NABA) than any other state. Since 1995, 12 chapters of NABA have been formed in Florida! This is undoubtedly due to our sunny Florida weather which allows us to garden and watch for butterflies in the field all year long. For the second time, NABA will have a regional meeting in Florida in September 2009. For more information about this meeting, click here! The Zebra Heliconian is Florida's state butterfly. In the banner above, the life cycle of the Zebra Heliconian is featured. The first photo shows a female laying eggs on Passionvine. The second photo shows two eggs on the tender new growth of Passionvine. The next two photos show the caterpillar of the Zebra Heliconian in two different instars (1st and last, respectively). The next photo shows the chrysalis and finally, in the last photo, the cycle is complete! Learn more about our state butterfly! (Photos in the banner by Hank Poor.) |
